Grapping social needs and implementing instructions of the ministries of Health; Education and Training in developing dentistry human resources, the Faculty of Odonto Stomatology, Hong Bang International University, in 2017 officially started to take in dental students for its international advanced programs.

Odonto Stomatology is Hong Bang International University’s excellences

Hong Bang International University has been training nurses in dentistry since 8/2011. It has a team of senior lecturers in the training of Dentistry human resources, as well as a lot of experience in their work from Faculty of Odonto Stomatology (University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City) and National Dental Hospital Ho Chi Minh City. For nearly 5 years, HIU’s Faculty of Odonto Stomatology has trained 19 courses on Dental Nursing, on Odonto Stomatology nursing specialists, Dental Assistants; in which 5 courses were in collaboration with Military Medical Middle School. The total number of graduates from the courses exceeds 1,000.

Training focuses on international factors

HIU’s training frametime in Odonto Stomatology lasts 6 years. The subjects account for about 80% of the training program at university level, equivalent to 197 credits. In which, the general knowledge part has 39 credits. The compulsory knowledge for professionalism has 136 credits, including the basic knowledge of 60 credits, the group of specialized knowledge is 76 credits, the supplementary knowledge group is 16 credits; and 4 optional credits.

Graduation thesis or graduation exams account for about 10% of the training program, equivalent to 4 credits. Thus, there are 201 credits in all.

While studying at HIU, Odonto Stomatology students learn specialized English to help them easily integrate quickly into the international environment right after graduation.

International inter-university programs

In February 2017, HIU signed an agreement with Hiroshima University, Japan in training high quality human resources in dentistry. In addition to the advanced international training programs, qualified students can also join the international pathway program “1 + 4 + 1”. The first-year students will study at HIU, the next 4 years they will study in Japan, totally using English and Japanese languages (basic level), and the final year will see them get clinical practice at HIU.

Hiroshima University’s Science Council on January 30, 2019 announced its Young Investigator Awards (travel awarda) for 3 scientific research projects by 3 lecturers of Faculty of Odonto Stomatology, Hong Bang International University. Each award, in cash, is ¥ 50,000 (nearly VND12 million).

The three young lecturers are MSc. Dang Thi Tham, MSc. Vo Thi Le Nguyen, MSc Le Huy Thuc My. They will present their research projects at the annual Science and Technology Conference of Hiroshima University, Japan, scheduled to be held on March 29-30, 2019.

The fact that scientific research projects by Faculty of Odonto Stomatology lecturers have won prizes and been published in international journals is the motivation for the university’s lecturers to continue

Hong Bang International University’s Faculty of Odonto Stomatology on July 8, 2020 at Dam Sen Campus held a ceremony to appoint People’s Teacher, Prof. Dr. Hoang Tu Hung, medical doctor, as Head of Basic Dental Science.

Attending the ceremony were the Faculty leaders (including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong, level-2 medical doctor Lam Huu Duc) and all Faculty lecturers. On behalf of the Faculty, Mr. Duc, Deputy Head of Faculty, awarded the appointment decision.

This is a great honor for the Faculty of as Mr. Hoang Tu Hung is one of the leading doctors in Vietnam’s dentistry in Vietnam, who has made great contributions to training future dentists.

With 33 years in dentistry, Assc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong, Head of Faculty of Odonto Stomatology, Hong Bang International University (HIU) has done many works at the same time. To list some, teaching and guiding students to make scienctific research integrate with regional countries and around the world, spending time with head and neck cancer patients.

Her life devoted to being medical doctor, teaching, and research

Teaching, doing research, and guiding scientific research, mostly on head and neck cancer, that is her life. More than 15 years organizing examinations, consultations and completely free tooth extractions for head and neck cancer patients before ra diation treatments at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong and her colleagues have shared the burden of treatment costs for cancer patients, shared the responsibility of a dentist doctor who accompanies cancer doctors in the fight against cancer.

She says, “What makes me most proud is all of my students. They have become Odonto Stomatology doctors to help people and patients, contribute to the development of the sector and society. At one point, I was successful in managing a dental clinic chain. However, I still decided to continue to devote to the training of many Odonto Stomatology doctors, which will spread love, care for the patients, contribute to the society and the country. “

Hong Bang International University, a place to realize the dream of bringing students to the world

During her 33 years serving the sector, Assoc. Prof. Hong has successfully guided many doctoral theses, level-2 doctors, resident doctors, and masters, contributing to the training of highly qualified human resources for Odonto Stomatology. Among them, many have beome leaders of hospitals in provinces and cities. Among the topics she has instructed, many have won the first and second prizes at the Youth Science – Technology Conference at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City and nationwide universities and colleges of medicine and pharmacy in Vietnam.

After she was 55 years old, completing her citizenship duty, she can continue working at the university. However, her concern is Vietnamese dentists are still not on par with those in regional countries. The professor says, “The international vision, mission, educational philosophy and strong capacity of a non-public school have given me confidence in working at Hong Bang International University. HIU President Associate Professor. Ho Thanh Phong’s prestige and talent helped me firmly step on the “Ship of Knowledge”, aka HIU, and accompany with my lecturers, contributing to the training of the younger generation of Odonto Stomatology doctors who have a bright mind, strong expertise, and integrate with other countries in the region and the worldwide.”

She had spent lots of her time with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City, and HCM City Cancer Hospital. HCMC. Now, she continues at Hong Bang International University. With full happiness, fulfilling her life’s dream of being both a medical doctor and teacher, she continues her dedicate, to sacrifice for her students and patients.

Following the success in the dentistry partnership between Hong Bang International University (HIU) and Japan’s Hiroshima University, the two sides in January 2018 signed an MOU for the “3 years + 1-year” program (studying the first three years at HIU and last year at Hiroshima University) for several of HIU majors. This aims to help HIU students get a valuable degree in the period of international integration.

The majors in the January 2018 signing are Japanese Studies, Commercial Law, Business Administration, Medicine, Pharmacy, Electronics – Automation, Environmental Biotechnology, Information Technology. This means right from this academic year, students in the eight majors will get the first 3 years at HIU and last year in Hiroshima if they have sufficient skills in English or the Japanese language.

Attending the MOU signing ceremony, on the HIU side were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Thai Ba Can, President, Dr. Tran Thuy Nga – Dean of Faculty of Odonto Stomatology, MSc. Nguyen Hong Nhung, Deputy Manager of International Cooperation & Scientific Research. The Hiroshima University side was represented by President Prof. Mitsuo Ochi, Prof. Toshiyuki Sato, and Vice President Prof. Takashi Takata.

MSc. Nguyen Hong Nhung explained about the partnership program: “Hiroshima University is one of the best research universities in Japan. Hong Bang International University, with the desire to train students with competence and ability to make scientific research, is always looking for reliable partners such as Hiroshima University to help HIU students to study and improve their capacity at prestigious foreign schools. One of the advantages, when students participate in scientific research, is to supplement the knowledge that has not been learned in university or get deeper into knowledge, obtain sufficient economic knowledge as well as real-life knowledge. The program enables HIU students to study for 1 year with University of Hiroshima lecturers so that they can both access the international environment and improve their foreign language skills, help them much when graduating.”

DENTAL IMPLANT ROBOT REPRESENTS EXCELLENCE IN DENTAL IMPLANTATION

It is the most advanced technology today in dental implantation. This technology offers many advantages over old methods.

The positioning robot system has cameras to observe the movements of the drill. Dentists when drilling into the bone will see the exact position of the drill, the correlation of the drill with the patient's anatomical structure directly on the screen. Dentists can know the implantation directions and positions, not letting the drill hit important anatomical structures such as nerves, blood vessels, sinuses, thus reducing the risk of complications and delivering absolute safety.
