After the preparation process, on the morning of March 21, 2021 – Reunification Day 2021, the Standing Committee of Hong Bang International University's Youth Union held a handover ceremony for the youth project “Recovering the image of the Vietnamese heroic mother and brothers, heroes and martyrs – 2021”, in An Hoa, Trung An, Cu Chi district.

The handover ceremony was attended by the family members of Vietnamese heroic mothers, relatives of martyrs; Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy – Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Trung  An Commune, Mr. Ho Nhut Minh – Secretary of Trung An Youth Union, Mr. Do Duc Anh – Secretary of the Youth Union, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung – Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union, and members from the Standing Committee and the youth of the Youth Union of Trung An Commune.

Bringing the project back to the fatherland

With the aim of spreading the significance of the work, in 2021, the Standing Board of HIU’s Youth Union decided to focus on restoring the images of Vietnamese heroic mothers and martyrs, in Trung An, Cu Chi district, associated with 2 resistance wars against France and America.

The collection of information, data, and photo restoration work were all carried out by the students of Hong Bang International University. Sharing about the difficulties in the implementation process, Mr. Do Duc Anh – Secretary of the Youth Union said: “The restoration of the image depends mostly on the quality of the original image. Most of the photos are old over time. There is a case where Vietnamese heroic mother’s family does not have a photo to worship, apart from the only picture on the old ID card. The team of students participating in the restoration have to come up with a lot of solutions to get the best quality photos after restoration.”

More solutions for traditional educational activities

In addition to handing over the legacy photos, the project also presented information boards with biographies of Vietnamese Heroic mothers and martyrs, presented 05 gifts to 5 revolutionary and disadvantaged families in the area of An Hoa commune. Thereby, educating more about the tradition of patriotism of the people of Trung An commune, for nowadays' young generation.

The project of HIU Youth “Recovering relics of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and Martyrs” has been maintained by the Standing Committee of the Youth Union since 2019. Through the restoration of relics and stories of martyrs' sacrifices, the Standing Committees of the Youth Union promoted the implementation of traditional education, giving gratitude to the young generation.

According to Pharmacist Ly Hong Huong Ha, MA, Deputy Head of Pharmaceutical Materials – Plants, Hong Bang International University, these are practical activities to make students excited in learning, love pharmacy, inspiring them to apply pharmacy knowledge into reality.

This will stirr up student passions in learning and research, as they will themselves make their pharmaceutical products for beauty, antioxidant purposes, body detox, healthcare…

“Together with the practical activities, we want to inspire students, get them more and more interested in Pharmacology, have more passion and enthusiasm for their selected sector, reduce pressure and tension in learning, link theory with practice, get career orientation, use learned knowledge to take care of health and beauty for oneself, family and everyone,” she shared.

She added that the use of drugs or cosmetics, functional foods from pharmaceutical materials and medicinal herbs is already a clear trend in Vietnam and other countries around the world. With theories learned from class combined with practice will help Faculty of Pharmacy students get more confidence in choosing the most effective products to make as well as consulting on how to use them properly, as a future pharmacist.

Products made by the Faculty’s students with advice from pharmaceutical materials and botanicals lecturers include oil extracts from grapefruit, cajeput, and mint. The others are shampoo products (locust shampoo, ocimum shampoo, grapefruit shampoo, mint shampoo, lemongrass shampoo…) and hair spray products.

The students also make a series of tea products that can support treatment of diseases: flower tea, lettuce tea, guava leaf tea, chamomile tea, detox tea, calming tea, skin care tea; syrups made from plants for skin care and antioxidant purposes.

The students also get instructions to make flashcards for awareness of pharmaceutical materials. This is considered a mini textbook for the subject of pharmacy practice 2. It helps students update and memorize the images of medicinal plants, their main characteristics and scientific names, distinguish pharmaceutical materials (no confusion), master effects and uses. The set of flashcards also has pictures the end products available on the market today.

In hundreds of future directions for 18-year-old ones, why do we choose to become dentists or Odonto Stomatology doctors? As recorded by the National Dental Hospital in Hanoi, a leading hospital in oral health, the hospital yearly provides medical examination and treatment for just about 200,000 people. Nationwide, about 10 million people are served and cared for. Consequently, more than 80 million other people still do not receive care about dental health and get no oral care serives.

Great number of foreigners get oral care in Vietnam 

Statistics from the National Dental Hospital in Hanoi shows that every year, almost 100,000 foreigners come to Vietnam for oral care, resulting in almost USD150 million. The number of foreign patients is predicted to increase 2.5 times over the next 3 years.

A survey by the Ministry of Health showed that in the first 6 months of 2019, the number of foreigners coming to Vietnam for medical examination and treatment increased, with 88,983 foreigners taking medical examination and 10,170 foreigners getting inpatient treatment. The Ho Chi Minh City Health Department has cooperated with the city Department of Tourism to implement tours combined with oral care services.

Medical workers has always been the core force, taking the lead in disease management, epidemic prevention and suppression, from diagnosing and treating diseases, even planning and taking measures to isolate and prevent epidemics, etc. They have always been the mainstay in the protection and care of people's health, making a significant contribution to the development of economic – cultural – and all aspects of social life.

Doctors are a must in health care ecosystem

In a national scientific conference of the Vietnam Medical Association, according to the Ministry of Health, an average of 12.5 million people have hypertension each year in Vietnam and 3.5 million people have diabetes, 2 million people with chronic heart and lung disease and nearly 126,000 new cases of cancer. That makes non-communicable diseases in Vietnam the leading causes of deaths. Nearly 8 out of 10 deaths are caused by non-communicable diseases.

Training human resources for health is critically essential, especially when epidemics or disasters occur on a large and prolonged basis. In addition, the quality of life is increasing day by day.

As the population is getting aged and ratios of chronic illnesses increase, people will seek high-levels of care which use the latest technologies, diagnostic tests and therapies. According to reports, the need for medical doctors is forecasted to grow by 15% between 2016 and 2026, much faster than all other professions. The growing and aging population is expected to drive the demand for health care services.

According Ho Chi Minh City Family Physicians Association report, the health workforce in Vietnam is still very low compared to the other countries worldwide. Specifically, in Vietnam, there are only 8 doctors per 10,000 people on average, or even in many other localities, this figure is much lower. Meanwhile, according to Resolutions of the Government and Health sector, Vietnam needs to reach to the rate of 10 doctors per 10,000 people.

Therefore, training healthcare human resources is essentially necessary, especially when epidemics or disasters occur on a large and prolonged basis. In addition, the quality of life is increasing day by day. Health insurance is increasingly spreading from urban to rural areas, thus more and more medical workers are needed, in both quantity and quality.

The Ministry of Education and Training signed in 2019 a decision to allow Hong Bang International University to train Medicine at university level, code 7720101.
